Website Submission Troubleshooting: Common Problems and Safe Fixes
Understand duplicate warnings, redirect restrictions, unavailable pages and reporting problems without trying to bypass safety checks.
Start with the page that you actually want to share
Copy the address from your browser after the page has loaded, then check it in a private window. A public website information page is generally more appropriate than a checkout, cart, login, payment processor or shortened tracking link. Remove unnecessary tracking parameters. Do not replace a rejected destination with a misleading link to work around directory rules.
A URL that is already listed
A repeated submission can be refused when the destination matches an existing listing after common URL normalisation, such as an http/https variant or a trailing slash. Search the directory by website name or domain first. If an entry needs a better title or a corrected destination, contact the operator with the existing URL. Submitting several slightly altered copies makes the directory less useful.
Redirects to the wrong destination
Websites sometimes redirect to a login screen, regional hostname, external payment provider or expired promotion. Open the submitted URL without being signed in and confirm where it ends up. If your website has a permanent canonical address, submit the genuine public destination instead. MeWebLink checks redirect targets and may refuse URLs that lead to restricted paths or hosts.
Temporary unavailability during screening
An automated check may fail because a screening service is temporarily unavailable. MeWebLink can hold a new submission privately and retry it, rather than immediately publishing without that required check. A confirmation message should indicate whether an entry was accepted or saved for retry. Avoid repeatedly resubmitting while a temporary check is pending; it creates duplicates and uses rate-limit allowance.
Why a working website may still be declined
A page loading successfully in your browser does not mean it meets a directory’s submission policy. A URL can be an affiliate referral, a payment path or a shortener even when the underlying business is legitimate. The right fix is to submit a normal public information page if it exists. Never disguise a prohibited link to make it pass the controls.
Formatting and form errors
MeWebLink requests a concise plain-text description between 50 and 250 characters, an appropriate category and a public HTTP or HTTPS link. Remove additional URLs from your description and avoid markup or repeated promotional slogans. If a form session expires, reload the page before completing it again. Browser privacy extensions can occasionally interfere with anti-bot challenges; do not disable general browser protections permanently.
Rate limits protect the directory
Submission limits reduce bot floods and duplicate entries. MeWebLink displays limits of three attempts per ten minutes, ten per hour and twenty per day, with additional domain and network checks. Repeating unsuccessful attempts quickly will not make checks more lenient. Wait for the limit to reset and submit an accurate destination once.
When to ask for help
If your site appears to meet the published rules but is consistently refused, send the real URL and a short explanation to the directory contact address. Include the visible error message without sharing security tokens or passwords. Automated systems can make mistakes; a clear, specific report helps distinguish a false positive from an intentionally restricted destination.
