Directory Submission Checklist Before Adding Your Website
Seven practical checks that make a listing easier to understand and review.
1. Open the site as a new visitor
Use a private browser window on a phone and a computer. Confirm that the public homepage loads without a login, browser warning or redirect loop. Check that a new visitor can understand the website’s purpose. A site that is still a holding page should be completed before submission.
2. Check the main navigation
Follow the primary menu and a few important content links. Repair missing pages, broken images and dead end buttons. Make sure visitors can find contact information or another appropriate support route. You do not need every possible feature; you do need the features you present to work.
3. Choose the right URL
Prefer your canonical public address, including https:// when your site supports it. Avoid URL shorteners, affiliate redirects and temporary campaign links. MeWebLink groups www and non-www versions of the same hostname for duplicate checking. Distinct useful pages can be submitted within the per-domain limits.
4. Write a factual title and description
Use the website’s actual name, not a string of search phrases. Explain what visitors will find in 50–250 characters. For example, a gardening site could describe its seasonal planting guides, climate focus and intended audience. Avoid “best”, “guaranteed” and other claims that require evidence. Do not paste HTML or a list of links.
5. Select a category by purpose
Choose the category that matches the main reason someone would visit. A shop selling books is usually a shopping service; a free reading curriculum is educational. If two categories fit, choose the stronger match and describe the destination accurately. The optional language and region fields can add context without changing eligibility.
6. Read the rules and check existing listings
Search the directory for your domain before submitting. If the same page is already listed, request a correction instead of creating another entry. Review the prohibited-content policy, including rules about deceptive claims, malware, adult content and illegal activity. Passing a technical URL check does not mean the content will be approved.
7. Submit once and keep it current
Check the form before pressing Submit. MeWebLink allows a small number of attempts per connection to control spam; invalid attempts also count. The confirmation explains whether your link is published or awaiting an automatic retry. Contact us if the site later closes or moves. A listing remains useful only while its description and destination are accurate.
