THE MEWEBLINK FIELD NOTES

How to Submit Your URL to Website Directories Safely

Check the destination, protect account information and avoid misleading submission offers.

By MeWebLink · A practical resource for website owners

Check the directory before sharing details

Open its About, Contact and submission policy pages. A directory should explain what it collects, who reviews listings and whether submission costs anything. Be cautious when a free offer changes into an unexpected payment step. A missing contact route does not prove wrongdoing, but it leaves you with fewer ways to correct or remove a listing later.

Share a public address only

A public homepage is usually enough. Never submit a password-reset link, signed download, private document, customer account page or admin login address. URLs can contain secrets after a question mark. Open the URL while signed out and remove unnecessary tracking parameters. If the page stops working without a token, it probably should not be listed publicly.

Do not hand over access to your website

Ordinary directory submission should not require your hosting password, DNS credentials or permission to install a script. Some specialised directories use domain verification, but you should understand exactly what you are verifying. MeWebLink does not require an account, email address, file upload or website access for ordinary submissions. A listing is a public description, not a reason to grant control of your site.

Recognise pressure tactics

Claims of guaranteed Google indexing, a compulsory reciprocal link or a short deadline to buy “permanent authority” deserve scrutiny. Do not use a service merely because it promises thousands of submissions. Read whether links are reviewed and whether payment affects placement. MeWebLink donations support running costs and never buy acceptance, faster processing or a more prominent listing.

Write without disclosing personal information

Your description becomes public if approved. Do not include private phone numbers, customer names or confidential business details. Describe your website’s purpose using information already suitable for publication. You can leave language and country fields blank on MeWebLink. If your business needs to display regulated details, put the correct information on your own website.

After submitting

Save the receipt and allow the review process to run. Follow correction or removal procedures if your website changes. If you find a suspicious directory entry, use its report function and explain the issue without sending passwords or sensitive evidence. Do not repeatedly open a destination you suspect is malicious; a report is enough to alert the moderator.

Check the original guidance

For search guidance, refer to Google Search Essentials, its spam policies and outbound-link guidance. For this directory, read our submission guidelines and screening policy.
